At various times Glen has led or contributed to an annual project of the National Center for State Courts to scan the future and publish a report on future trends. In 2007, Glen was one of three futurists and three court officials to participate in a blog-based dialogue on futuring and the courts, which became part of the annual report. While visiting Chicago to address Mid-West builders, Glen suggested that the aging U.S. population will require a re-thinking of the size and cost of houses. Next News is a regular column written by James Pethokoukis for U.S. News & World Report online publication USNews.com. In this article, Friday Forward: A Chat with a Futurist, James interviewed Glen regarding trends in the next 10 to 25 years, and also asked some interesting questions about sources, books, and more. In this 2005 article in the annual College edition, Glen Hiemstra is asked about the hot jobs of the future and the kind of education that would lead to them. “Hot Jobs of the Future” Published November, 2005.
This article appeared for the first time in Links, a publication of the North American Die Casting Association. Glen keynoted their annual CEO conference in 2006, and the article is based on the keynote and workshop. Published October 2006.
After providing a keynote address to the Society of American Florists at their annual meeting in Hawaii in 2004, Glen was asked by this professional association to provide a series of articles on the future for their member publication, Trend Tracker. “The Next Thing”, a weekly column by Arts and Entertainment writer Melanie McFarland, of the Seattle Times. In the July 21, 2002 column, “Futurists are well, the future”, she suggests that “trend spotters” are out, while futurists are in, and profiles Glen Hiemstra.
Seattle P-I Reporter Brad Wong offered a profile of Glen Hiemstra in his February 11, 2003 article titled “For full-time futurist, life isn’t practical”. Brad investigates the questions Glen asks people in order to draw them outside their normal thinking.
Lori Peckol’s article, Redmond 2022: Designing Our Future, was based on a presentation to the city of Redmond, Washington’s Planning Commission as they prepared to begin a long-term planning process in the summer of 2003.

“A Letter from 2028, An Older and Smaller World” was written as a sample scenario, one which highlights the impact of an aging society, while world population growth comes to a surprising end.
