I think in many aspects futurism will fall into 1 of 2 camps. These camps are the glass is half empty and half full segments. Clearly your website seems to be in the half full contingent, which I am sure is more of what people want to read. Too much doom and gloom or scolding will perhaps turn readers away and thus ruin the momentum you have going on here.

Kudos for being out there and doing it.

Are you considering the data now available on world fish catches ? Or the information available on the PH of the world's oceans ? Carrying capacities and carbon footprint models ?

Sadly this information causes me to conclude that the glass is half empty, however I am not one of the supporters who proclaim an immediate visitation of the 4 horsemen...

The problem of our world is consumption. Not alternatives that support continued consumption. Fuel cells ? great but the cost to implement them on a global scale ? By simply consuming less we buy ourselves and the next generation more time to try and blunt the population bubble.

There is plenty of data available on the trends. How we choose to handle these choices is what the future will remember about us.

what can we do ?

Choose to lower your energy consumption. Wear a sweater indoors, ride your bike, the options are endless.

Consume less. buy used. avoid extra packaging. don't use plastic.

Grow some food yourself. An herb garden is not only easy, but saves money and gives the gift of greening up your life.

Avoid white paper.

Recycle your waste

consider composting

Nice article. I'm hopeful that we'll find the backbone and the political will to make this happen. After the Seattle Times article yesterday about Bush refusing to do anything at all, I'm sure we'll be yet one more year behind before anything serious happens on the political side here.
